Before coming to Turkey I've never heard of this place. There was one time when I saw a photo with a panoramic view that stuck me like a light - turquoise sea, stunning bay, mountains, and white sand beaches. I couldn't believe that such a beautiful place could exist. Later I found out it was D Maris Bay - the super-luxury hotel outside of Marmaris where I lived at that time.
I decided that I should visit this place. And such an opportunity appeared. Two years ago in July, I went there to meet the clients who were boarding the yacht they booked. I was so excited to see that amazing panoramic view I saw in the photo. On the other hand, I felt a bit sceptical - I thought maybe it was just the photo, and in reality, everything looks much more modest.
I was wrong - it looked even better. The view at the bay looks more like a fairy tale. It made me say one more time that the coast of Turkey is as beautiful as the one of France, Sardinia, Portofino, Amalfi. Many undiscovered places in Turkey lack proper marketing.
From Marmaris it takes about one hour to arrive at the hotel that's located at the beginning of Datca Peninsula - one more beautiful land to view when in Turkey.
After a brief excursion in the stylish lobby of the hotel my friend, who brought me here, said: "Let's go to the terrace to see the bay". And we went.
Here I am walking slowly towards the huge terrace and still don't realize that in one minute my eyes will be hit with the colourful plethora of confetti, and I'd remember this moment forever.
Seeing the infinite blue sky, the bay and the islands, yachts anchored nearby, palms, white sand beaches, people lounging among the sounds of singing cicadas, and bright turquoise sea gave me only one thought at that moment: "How beautiful our world is created by God!"
The hotel was opened in 2012. D Maris Bay is located on top of the volcanic hill of the astonishing Datca peninsula. It is where the poetry of nature is seen, it is where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet.
The horizon in front of the hotel is dotted with the islands, pine trees and the blues of the water. Terracotta colours of the soil dilute the green and blue hues. The landscape is both dramatic and surreal. Especially it is felt so by those who come here from the big cities, as their eyes are not used to such views.
The hotel is much loved by world-famous celebrities, politicians, business people.
What else to do here besides enjoying the panoramic view and why stop by when you're on a yacht journey?
D Maris Bay hotel offers plenty of various entertainment options for its guests and visitors.
White sand beaches
It is one of the main reasons to come here as you won't see anything like this around. The yacht may drop an anchor near the hotel, and the crew can bring you to the hotel's pier. From there, its staff will take you to a reserved place and the preferred beach.
It is mentioned on the website of D Maris Bay that it's the only hotel in Europe featuring five private sand beaches. Each venue has its own features and a concept. The unique sand brought from Egypt doesn't burn the feet in summer.
Bay Beach is the main strip of sand located near world-renowned restaurant Rüya and Nusr-Et, as well as gelateria, a bakery and a cafe. La Guérite is located at the edge of the cove, and its creation is inspired by the concept of La Guérite in Cannes and St. Barths. There are two more private beaches for lounging in style, Maris and Silence Beach.
Exclusive dining experience
Your personal yacht chef pumpers you up with delicious flavours of the Turkish cuisine every day of a yacht charter. However, just for a change you may choose one of the sophisticated restaurants of the hotel and have dinner onshore.
Meat-lovers will probably choose Nusr-Et restaurant for an unusual but delicious gastronomic journey. Nusr-Et restaurants are famous in the world. They are established by the Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, who became a butcher sensation in the world and also knowns as "Salt Bae".
Zuma offering modern Japanese cuisine doesn't need many words of description as it's also a world-renowned brand.
To enjoy fish and traditional Greek cuisine, head to Manos, inspired by the restaurant of the same name on Symi, beautiful Greek island located not far away from here.
Spa & wellness
You're welcome to gift yourself with a visit to the exclusive Mytha Spa concept and enjoy a few hours of total relaxation and rejuvenation.
Wedding receptions & celebrations
D Maris Bay can host a beautiful event of your dreams. After celebrating life in the decorations of dramatic landscapes and amazing sea you'll head back to the yacht and set on a journey full of adventures and privacy.
Sports
There's a tennis school in D Maris Bay hotel. Famous Serbian tennis player and former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic worked on its establishment.
Sometimes travellers choose not to stop by in D Maris Bay but to start or finish a yachting vacation here. It is also possible. There is another option if you already stay in this hotel and you don't want to go on a week-long yachting charter, but still want to see the nearby bays. It is to rent a yacht for a day cruise. Please, let me know if you wish to experience such a journey.
The closest airport to D Maris Bay Hotel is Dalaman. It is also possible to fly here with a helicopter from Bodrum International Airport.
I personally think that this hotel shows what really Turkey is about and how gorgeous its nature and that it also offers high-class facilities and exclusive entertainments. There are many stunning places to see around the Bodrum Peninsula too. They are not exactly similar, but also jaw-dropping.
For me, this place is super attractive for the feeling it gives me. I sense tranquillity, peace, unhurried path of life and privacy in this place. There is no hustle and bustle.
Here you come to breathe out all that's been stocked inside the head and needed to be released.
Here you calm every cell of your being. Here you rejuvenate and then move back to the real world with the strength gained after total relaxation.
Where else would you feel so if not among such dazzling nature?
Here are several interesting facts for you, and I want to believe that some of them are not pure myths.
I read online that the Datca Peninsula where the hotel is located is famous for its air quality. It is very rich with oxygen, and therefore it's very healing. People knew it back in the 12 century B.C. Ancient Greek geographer said: “God sent his beloved creatures to Datça for them to live longer.” I've seen pretty much all of Datca peninsula and I can say it could be 100% true. It is that much charming and rejuvenating.
Also at the edge of peninsula, there are ruins of the ancient city Knidos. This is where the Temple of Aphrodite was standing. The ancient sanctuary was a famous pilgrimage site back in the times.
Anyway, it is better to see once than to hear 100 times about it. I'm wishing you to visit D Maris Bay hotel and Datca Peninsula.
For now, I say «güle güle», which in Turkish means "bye, bye".
As always, if you have any questions, I'm here to help you with travel and yacht advice.
